Situated on the Island of Mljet in the deep south of Croatia, Mljet National Park is bordered by two saltwater lakes. What is a fact, though, is that Benedictine monks used to live on Mljet almost 1,000 years ago.They lived on a rather unusual site. In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register.. I’d love to visit those waterfalls in Krka, Manita Pec Cave and the Kornati Islands.I can’t figure out which of these sounds the best – I want to do everything! Yet, as wild as it may be, it’s still surprisingly accessible, situated off the main road that connects Rijeka and Zagreb.Want to hear the howl of a wild wolf? 50 species of mammals, 157 species of birds, 321 types of butterflies, 12 species of amphibians, and a few reptilians inhabit the park.

Karst habitats are one of the most significant landscapes in the country. !I visited Mljet and Brijuni before independence, but I have never been to the others.
The national park encompasses an area of 296.85 square km including territories of both Lika-Senj and Karlovac Counties.
Winters, on the other hand, are often snowy and freezing cold.Paklenica National Park is not just for hikers; it also attracts rock climbers, mountaineers, and spelunkers.

We only got to Plitvice (and really wanted to get to Krka), but they all look amazing! Tickets for the other parks should be available in the future.
So beautiful ~ I don’t know how to get to all fo them, but I am going to try! We live in Croatia, and are always exploring the region. There are some restrictions on the tackle, however, and some fish species can only be taken when in-season. We travel & write about food, accomm & the best things to do in the Balkans. The national park hosts a large colony of sea-gulls as well as some reptiles, amphibians, rodents, and 69 kinds of butterflies.

Is it easy to get to from Greece do you know?Ok, I will officially have to stopping coming to your site! The Velebit makes for a gorgeous backdrop for photos, often looking like a fake Hollywood movie backdrop. He had his very own zoo here, which is now a safari park, one of the island’s main attractions.Other areas of interest in Brijuni National Park include archaeological sites of two ancient Roman villas, and the 5th-century St. Mary’s Church, which is said to have been used by the Knights Templar in the 13th century.
